Lowlit Collective has teamed up with Volvo Cars to create VENT-AGE CHANDELIER (2023), a Chandelier made from scrap parts.
The chandelier is made from recycled parts from Volvo cars. The project was not just about creating a work of art, but also about raising awareness of the importance of environmental protection and resource circulation. The materials used to create the chandelier include car engine parts, exhaust pipes, and steel, demonstrating how these parts can be transformed into works of art.
The project is part of Volvo Cars ‘Upcycling Living Design Project’. The company has been working with various design studios to develop upcycled products to address the issue of waste from its vehicles, and this collaboration with the Lowit Collective is considered one of the most creative and innovative yet.
"We wanted to show that scrap parts from cars are not just trash, but can be transformed into materials that can be given new life," says Jae-sik Choi, CEO of Lowit Collective. The chandelier is a great representation of their philosophy and is expected to inspire the design industry and the public.
The collaboration is being hailed as a prime example of sustainable design and the possibilities of upcycling. The Vent-age Chandelier by Lowit Collective will be available at the Maison & Objet 2024, at Kollage.
